The Process

The Process

Budgets are an important item. We all operate with some sort of budget. It's important in deciding what kind of car you're going to purchase, what kind of a house you want to live in, where you send your kids to school, how to spend your vacation, and all other purchases and selections we all make in life.

Once all of this is out of the way, and I have taken all considerations into my Univac, the process continues. I can start to create and design that perfect piece of furniture that you've been seeking.

How do I start?

I generally work out my thoughts on paper, drawing by hand, the old-fashioned way. From these three dimensional/perspective and to scale drawings, I can better understand elements such as function, size, proportion, details, materials and finishes. And, if I've done my job correctly, so can you. From these drawings (usually about three to five options), you and I can make a rational decision regarding which concept best fits your needs. Sometimes, although rarely, I have to go back to the drawing board and refine my designs with your suggestions in mind.

Understandably, there is a fee for these drawings. The design fee will be deducted from the final cost of your project. If, for some reason, you decide not to go forward with the project, please keep in mind that I retain all copyrights, patents and intellectual property rights for the concepts that I developed for you. You may keep the drawings, but I retain ownership of the design(s).

What comes next?

After a design is selected, and the materials and finishes are determined, I can "put a number to it." I will then send you a formal "Price Quote", along with a request for a 50%, non-refundable deposit. Once your deposit and approval is received, I can schedule your project, taking into consideration the others that are in my shop. Lead times vary. You can generally figure from ten to twelve weeks, depending on how busy we are.

Whatever the case, I aim to please.

Although I have my own aesthetic and a strong sense of design, you will ultimately own the piece. It will live in your home, not mine, so you should be getting what you want, not what I like. It's your piece.

That should explain "The Process." If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me, and thank you for your interest.
